Frequently Asked Questions
This section is designed to address the most frequently asked questions from MyScript Notes users. Here, you will find answers to common inquiries, covering a wide range of topics to help you quickly find the information you need.
Can I try MyScript Notes before buying?
You can try MyScript Notes for free on iOS and Android, as it’s an excellent way to explore whether it is the right tool for you before buying. The free version lets you try out features like pen and keyboard input, handwriting-to-text conversion, export, copy/paste, and backup. However, it has a five-page limit per notebook and doesn’t include cloud sync or AI features.
Can MyScript Notes convert handwritten files into digital format?
MyScript Notes uses ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) to turn handwritten text, math, and diagrams into digital form. Unlike OCR (Optical Character Recognition), MyScript Notes focuses solely on handwriting recognition and does not support text extraction from images.
What languages does MyScript Notes support?
Explore the article on available languages to ensure that MyScript Notes supports the language you intend to use. MyScript Notes allows only one language per note, but English is always recognized alongside any selected language. MyScript Notes doesn’t currently support right-to-left languages like Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, or Urdu due to the layout challenges, especially when combined with English.
Do I need to purchase MyScript Notes separately on Android and iOS?
No, you only need to purchase MyScript Notes once. After buying it on either Android or iOS, you can use it on up to 10 devices across both platforms without having to pay again.
Why was the app name changed from Nebo to MyScript Notes?
We’ve updated the name to better align with our overall brand. By bringing everything under the MyScript name and gathering all our content on myscript.com, it’s easier for users to find, explore, and connect with all of our products in one place. It’s part of a bigger effort to make the experience simpler and more consistent for everyone.
Does Family Sharing work with MyScript Notes?
MyScript Notes needs each user to have their own MyScript account to manage notes and unlock full features, so it doesn’t support family sharing. The App Store's family sharing notice for MyScript Notes is incorrect, and we've asked for it to be removed.
Can I sync my notes with the cloud?
Sync your notes across devices with iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox using a free MyScript account. By default, MyScript Notes auto-syncs to keep your notes up-to-date, but you can switch to manual sync in Settings. Syncing is included in the paid plan—just log in with your MyScript account and choose your preferred cloud service. Learn more about cloud sync.
How can I recover content that I accidentally deleted?
With the 5.8 version or later, you can recover notes, folders, or collections from the trash. For earlier versions, contact our support team for help. Note that pages from notebooks or PDFs are permanently deleted and cannot be restored. Learn more about using the trash.
What’s happening with Nebo on Windows?
Nebo will continue as-is on Windows, while it becomes MyScript Notes on iOS and Android. This reflects a strategic decision to temporarily focus our development efforts on iOS and Android, where most users are. By streamlining resources, we can improve performance, design, and overall user experience more effectively.
Nebo on Windows will remain fully functional—you can continue using it to create, edit, and access your notes. Importantly, compatibility between MyScript Notes and Nebo is maintained, so your notes will stay synced across all your devices, regardless of platform. If you’ve made a lifetime purchase of Nebo on Windows, it will remain valid and you won’t be charged again for existing features.
Is MyScript Notes still compatible with Nebo on Windows?
Yes, they’re fully compatible. The note format remains the same across all platforms, so you can continue syncing your notes seamlessly between iOS, Android, and Windows devices.
How do I set up a Surface Pen shortcut to open Nebo on Windows?

Scroll down to Windows Ink Workspace, and under the Click once option, tap Launch a universal app and then choose Nebo. You can now open Nebo anytime by pressing your pen’s shortcut button.
